Staff, students and Governors at Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy (OSSMA) in Blurton, Stoke-on-Trent, are today celebrating their best ever GCSE results since the introduction of the new challenging grading system. More students than ever have achieved a Grade 5 pass in mathematics and English and have made significantly higher progress than students nationally.
Overall, 44% of pupils were awarded a Grade 5 or above, defined by the Government as a “strong pass,” in English and mathematics, and 69% of students at the academy achieved a Grade 4 or above in both subjects. Both results are considerable improvements on last year’s figures and consolidate the consistently high performance of the Academy since its opening.
