A right royal treat

Packmoor Ormiston Academy

A group of pupils from Packmoor Ormiston Academy in Stoke, were treated to the unique opportunity to experience an art class at Buckingham Palace.

The pupils in Years 5 and 6 were chosen to join the trip after winning an art competition to paint the queen, organised by the Ormiston Trust.

The winning pupils participated in an art workshop in the palace, which saw them sitting on the lawn and sketching the impressive building.

The day also included a special tour, in which students were able to steal a glance at the queen’s impressive wardrobe, take a ride on the London Eye and a river boat trip down the Thames.

For many of the talented pupils, it was their first sight of the capital and first experience of a train ride, which was complete with a special conductor’s welcome organised by the academy.

Sharon May, Principal at Packmoor Ormiston Academy, said: "We were thrilled to be able to offer such fantastic opportunities to our students. It was a great day for everyone involved and all the children came back inspired from their trip."
