George Salter Academy celebrate well-deserved student achievements

  18 August, 2022

Post-16 students at George Salter Academy (GSA) are celebrating today after receiving their results, enabling them to secure places at their chosen universities, on coveted apprenticeships and selected jobs.

The sixth form students have achieved some excellent results which reflect the hard work and commitment shown to their studies throughout the Covid and beyond. Attendance rates at the academy have been above the national figure every week of the academic year.

Staff and students have come together to mark the achievements of all the students, who have worked exceptionally hard over the past couple of years to secure these grades.

Alongside the continued success of the academy, some particular individual highlights include:

  • Head Girl Nazia Yeasmin achieved A* (biology), A (chemistry) and A (maths), and is taking her place to study Medicine at the University of Birmingham
  • Paavan Shemar, our head boy from last year, achieved B grades in biology and chemistry and will read politics and international relations at the University of Nottingham
  • Charlie Tilley achieved B (psychology), A (RE) and A (sociology) and is studying psychology at Aston University
  • Ismail Ajmal achieved A (biology), A (chemistry) and A (psychology) and is taking a year out with plans to apply for a medicine degree next year
  • Nayima Sadiq secured an A, B and a Distinction* and is studying finance at Aston University
  • Ashrafur Rahman achieved an A*in maths, A further maths, A in physics and a B chemistry and will be studying theoretical physics at the University of Birmingham

Many of those students who were new to the fabulous George Salter Academy and joined our post-16 as external entrants did extremely well. We are particularly delighted for Chennaie Ledford who achieved B grades in English Literature and sociology.

There were particularly strong performances in English Literature, law, and business. Given the impact of the pandemic on the creative and expressive arts, the academy is proud of the great progress and achievements in art, photography, PE, dance and catering. Similarly, the much better than expected progress in health and social care and child development is excellent, given the restricted opportunities for work experience in these areas.

Adrian Price, principal said: “This is another most unusual results day and comes at, what we hope to be, the end of a challenging time for everyone. However, I am absolutely thrilled for all those students who have got the results that they needed and wish them all the very best.

“Take pride in your achievements which are very well deserved.  We are all aware of the incredible hard work that you have put into your studies during your time with us and want you to know how very proud of you we are.  It is brilliant to be celebrating your achievements today, so well done!

“We are proud to celebrate the success of our fabulous young people, wish them all the very best in the future and hope that they cherish their very special George Salter memories.”
