Norwich football star amongst excellent student achievements at Ormiston Victory

  24 August, 2023

Students at Ormiston Victory Academy in Costessey are celebrating today after receiving fabulous GCSE results, as they get ready to take their next steps in their education journey.

The English and mathematics ‘Basics’ Grade in 2023 is the academy’s highest to date – testament to students’ resilience and the dedication of the staff.

Staff and families have come together today to mark the achievements of all the students, who have worked exceptionally hard over the past couple of years to secure these grades.

Alongside the continued success of the academy, some particular individual highlights include:

  • Tyler Williams, who was a national OAT award nominee, secured grade 9s in mathematics, English, geography, physics, grade 8s in chemistry and biology and a Distinction* in business. Excitingly, he has been offered a contract at Norwich City Football Club for next year.
  • Beren Guler achieved an excellent Progress 8 score of +3.50, marking the strongest progress achieved by a Victory student since recording of the benchmark began. He achieved grade 9s in chemistry, physics, biology and French, grade 8s in mathematics and computer science, a grade 7 in English literature and a Distinction* in business. This is well deserved by Beren who has been so diligent.
  • Matthew Prior, a 2022 OAT award winner, gained a grade 9 in mathematics, grade 8s in English, physics, and geography, with a Double Distinction* in IT and business. During his time at Victory, Matthew was an executive ambassador, and will study at the academy’s Lord Nelson Sixth Form College where he will continue his ambassador role. Matthew also recently took part in the 2023 prestigious World Scouting Jamboree in South Korea.
  • Isla Clarke achieved an amazing nine grade 9s in English, English literature, mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics, geography, philosophy, and art. Isla also received OAT’s national scholarship, meaning she will join Gresham’s sixth form in September.

Naomi Palmer, principal said: “We are extremely proud of our Class of 2023 and the results they have achieved, which are hugely deserved. They have worked so hard over the last five years (most of which have been extremely challenging due to Covid) and it’s brilliant to be celebrating their achievements today. The support they’ve been given by the Year 11 team has again been exemplary – and this shows in their outcomes – and their smiles today.

“I would like to thank all our students, their families, our staff and the wider academy community for their ongoing support and we look forward to seeing our students progress on to the next stage of their education and fulfil their goals.”
