In 2018 OAT secured funding to support #iwill – a campaign aiming to make social action a part of life for young people. Social action includes things like campaigning, fundraising and volunteering, all of which can support pupils in developing individual skills and confidence and promoting wellbeing.

Using the funding we’ve received so far, pupils in our academies have started running a variety of amazing social action projects in their local communities that they’ve chosen to benefit everyone. The projects include things like building community libraries and gardens, anti-bullying campaigns, mental health awareness, tree planting, supporting LBGTQ+ pride activities and more.

Inspired by the good work of our pupils, Fabrice Vinson (Capital Build Programme Adviser for OAT) has signed up for the mammoth Vélo Birmingham and Midlands bike ride this May; a 100 mile round trip taking place in just one day, to raise additional money to further support our pupils #iwill projects.

Starting and ending in the heart of Birmingham City Centre, the 100 mile fully closed road route will take Fabrice and 17,000 other cyclists through Coventry, Solihull, Warwickshire, Dudley and Sandwell as they raise money for the charities and projects that are most important to them.

The money Fabrice raises will go to support the overall aims of the #iwill projects in our academies, helping our pupils do even more for their academies, their communities and of course, themselves.

If you would like to support Fabrice on his epic bike ride and in turn our pupils, you can donate to his BT MyDonate page by clicking here: https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/fabricevinson1
