Performing arts students from Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy (OBA) recently had the exciting opportunity to experience life as a university student.
On Thursday 5January, Year 10 GSCE Drama, Dance and Music students attended the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA) in partnership with Shaping Futures.
After an informative talk from a LIPA representative regarding the many different performing arts courses on offer at the university, students were given a tour of the facilities and were thoroughly impressed with the state-of-the-art performance and recording spaces.
Students then opted into a dance, drama or music workshop and participated in an intensive day of learning on their chosen discipline. This culminated in students performing for each other and receiving feedback and high praise from the university staff leading the sessions.
All students showed resilience and worked extremely hard. They were a credit to themselves and the academy in all aspects of the day.
Mrs Grace Quinn, drama teacher who organised trip said: “I couldn’t be prouder of how all students fully submerged themselves in all aspects of the day! The talent displayed from our OBA dancers, musicians and performers absolutely blew me away! We most certainly have some superstars in the making…watch this space!”
Following the day at LIPA, the group visited the Empire Theatre, Liverpool where they were treated to an evening performance of the sensational and iconic Tony Award®-winning musical DREAMGIRLS. Everything from the costumes, songs and choreography to the music, lighting and staging wowed students from start to finish and they deservedly gave a standing ovation as the curtain fell.
One student who attended the trip said: “That was amazing! The whole day has been amazing! Thank you; opportunities and experiences like this really open my eyes to what I can go on and do after school within the performing arts industry.”
A fantastic and memorable day was had by all involved.
