Ormiston Meadows Academy was nominated for the donation after a parent of one of the pupils there had put the school forward. The final decision was then put to Amazon employees who chose to award the prize to the academy.

Amazon's Device Donation Program takes place each year and aims to give back to communities near Amazon’s fulfilment centres.

The presentation was delivered during a school assembly on Monday (6th November) by Lee Shepherd, General Manager of Peterborough Fulfilment Centre at Amazon Operations UK.

Jean Watt, Principal of Ormiston Meadows Academy, said:

"The news of this generous donation came as a wonderful surprise. Our academy always strives to offer the best opportunities for our pupils and this valuable resource will enhance the delivery of reading. We would like to thank Amazon for their support."

Lee Shepherd, General Manager of Peterborough Fulfilment Centre at Amazon Operations UK, said:

"The staff at Ormiston Meadows Academy do a fantastic job in encouraging more reading among the young people in our community and we hope this donation helps the pupils experience new books while enjoying some old classics. The joy of reading is something we’re incredibly passionate about at Amazon and we’re keen to help local children broaden their literary horizons with this donation."

One member of the Amazon team from Peterborough that nominated the school for support is Antanas Brazaitis, whose daughter is a pupil. He said:

"Ormiston Meadows Academy does an excellent job increasing the literary skills of our young people and this donation will help even more local kids to enjoy books of all genres. It’s great that the team at Amazon in Peterborough is able to provide this support to Ormiston Meadows Academy and I know that the donation will be really welcomed by everyone at the school."
