Students at Ormiston Sandwell Community Academy in Sandwell have today received their GCSE results, enabling them to embark on the next chapter of their education.

Staff and students joined together to celebrate the multiple achievements at the end of what has been an unprecedented end to the academic year for all schools across the country, in light of COVID-19 and the cancellation of exams this summer.

Amongst some of the individual successes this year were:

  • Isabelle achieved six Grade 9s and four Grade 8s.
  • Thomas also secured six Grade 9s and three Grade 8s and is now going on to Dudley Sixth to carry on with his studies.
  • Arozo attained five Grade 9s and four Grade 8s, and spent lockdown learning to speak Persian. She is hoping to attend King Edwards.

Marie McMahon, Principal at Ormiston Sandwell Community Academy, said:

“As I reflect back on my final year at Ormiston Sandwell Community Academy, I have never been prouder of my students. Our Year 11s worked incredibly hard for these achievements and proved to be great sources of support to one other during unprecedented challenges.

“Here at Ormiston Sandwell Community Academy we really are a family, and I know there are many more great things in store for these students. Congratulations to everyone receiving results today, as they embark on the next chapter of their education and beyond.”

Students at Ormiston Sandwell Community Academy have made sure to stay connected to each other this year despite the school closures. As the academy gets ready for a new year, staff are excited to welcome students back to the classroom. Marie has been a brilliant leader for the school over many years, and now she’s handing the reigns to the highly capable Faye Cutler, who will begin as Principal in September.
