Ormiston Sandwell Community Academy steps in time for spellbinding performance

Pupils and staff from the Performing and Production Arts faculty at Ormiston Sandwell Community Academy (OSCA) recently proudly presented their latest musical production of Mary Poppins.

The performances at the school saw a full house on all three nights of the performances as pupils delighted their audiences by taking them on a journey based on the classic film.

Since September, 101 pupils from Years 7 to 11 have been working hard on the production, making the most of their time in extracurricular clubs after school to plan and rehearse.

In January, both pupils and staff involved in the show completed a residential course to Ingestre in Staffordshire, where they embarked on a rigorous weekend of rehearsals and fine-tuning in preparation.

Pupils from every age group also ran the staging of the entire production, managing the smooth running of all the backstage, lighting and sound needs as well as performing on stage. The production makes up part of the evidence that pupils in Key Stage 4 require as they work hard towards their BTEC qualifications in Drama, Musical Theatre and Music.

Marie McMahon, Principal at Ormiston Sandwell Community Academy, said:

"A massive well done to every single pupil involved in what was a wonderful musical performance.

"It was great to see so many friends, family members and pupils join us to watch the product of such hard work and commitment. We look forward to seeing what future performances lie in store for our Performing and Production Arts faculty."
