Ormiston SWB Pupils football teams visit the Netherlands

Pupils at Ormiston SWB Academy recently took a trip to the Netherlands to show off their skills, as they took part in a Masterclass Football Competition.

The young football players from the school set off to the town of Valkenburg as part of the school’s 2019 Sports Tour.

On the first full day of the tour, pupils participated in a 90-minute training session led by professional Dutch coaches, where they looked at a range of different tactics and strategies that could be implemented into the school’s evening games against local opposition.

Both the school’s girls and boys teams took part in training sessions and matches against local opposition during the trip, with the teams performing and conducting themselves brilliantly in what were great experiences for the two teams.

Pupils and staff also enjoyed the opportunity to participate in a school bowling competition and visit the infamous PSV Eindhoven Football Stadium, where pupils received a full guided tour of the pitch, stands, club shop and trophy and press rooms on the final day of the tour. This was followed by the boys team participating in a football tournament against other visiting English schools, winning one game and losing two.

Player of the tournament went to pupil Nedas, whilst Captain Jordan received a staff-voted leadership award for his role throughout the tour.

Mr Lawley, a teacher at Ormiston SWB Academy, said: “I and all the other staff who attended the tour want to thank and highlight how outstanding all of our pupils were throughout the trip, which demonstrated the high level of football skills across the region.

“We were delighted to take part in some friendly competition against other local schools and our pupils proved themselves to be a credit to Ormiston SWB Academy.”
