Overall, the number of A-level entries achieving an A* to C grade rose significantly to 65% - an increase of eight percentage points from 2017 and also achieved an exceptional 100% pass rate across all A Levels (A* to E). There was also a strong increase in the proportion of students achieving the top grades, with the percentage of students achieving A* to A grades up by 12 percentage points from 2017, while almost 40% of students achieved A* to B grades this year.

In mathematics, an impressive 86% of entries achieved a grade A* to C and 71% achieved the top A* to B grades – the best-ever results recorded at the academy. In History, more than three-quarters of A-level entries secured A* to C grades, with 71% achieving A* to B. In Art, a stunning 100% of A-level entries achieved A* to B grades.

Vocational students also achieved highly, with 80% of Interactive Media entries and 100% of BTEC Sport exams gaining A* to C equivalents. Results for students studying Level 3 vocational courses were also exceptional, with five students achieving triple A* grades in Childcare.

Amongst the many successes:

  • Harry Landles achieved an impressive A* in maths, and two As in Biology and Geography. He will now go on to read Economics and Mathematics at Leeds University.
  • Chloe Tulloch achieved two A*s in both Art and English Literature, and a C in History. She will continue her studies at University of East Anglia, with a degree in Literature and History whilst pursuing her art in her own time.
  • Ben Revell, who secured an A in English Language and Business Studies and a B in History, will be studying Marketing at Aston University.
  • Mickey Hill and Rachel Elvin – who are also celebrating excellent A-level outcomes, and will begin working at the academy in September, for their Gap Years before university.

Head of Sixth Form, Richard Timm, said:
