Nick Hudson, CEO of OAT delivered a trust-wide story time performed at Packmoor Ormiston Academy to celebrate World Book Day and to encourage pupils to get excited about reading.
During the live reading, Nick provided an engaging retelling of the story ‘Look Up’ by Nathan Bryon and Dapo Adeloa and published by Puffin. The book tells the story of Rocket, a young girl on a mission to encourage her teenage brother to put down his phone and ‘look up’.
The live recording has provided an excellent opportunity for pupils at Packmoor and other primary academies across the Trust to embark on an exciting literary adventure together.
This year, the trust is looking to highlight and promote audiobooks as a way for young people to expand their library and celebrate storytellers. This included a competition entitled ‘Are You Listening?’, which was open to all pupils and required them to record an audio reading of their chosen text.
The pupils have been excited to showcase their favourite stories, poems and even their own writing with a chance to win various fantastic prizes including a Kindle Fire.
Furthermore, each academy planned additional innovative activities to celebrate World Book Day including extreme reading to encourage pupils to read somewhere unusual and a decorate a potato in the style of their favourite book character competition.
Nick Hudson, said: “During World Book Day and throughout the rest of the year, our fantastic English leads go above and beyond to ensure each academy is engaging pupils in storytelling and inspiring them to read.
“Ensuring our pupils are immersed in the full potential of where a love of reading and writing can take them is essential to their success and a central part of our approach.”
