Students and staff at City of Norwich School (CNS) are celebrating a fantastic year of successful A-level results today – with a quarter of entries achieving top grades. All 100% of its students who applied for university have been successful in securing places.

This year sees the highest number of its students ever going to Oxbridge, medicine or veterinary science universities, double that of last year. Six will be going to Oxbridge, and two more to study medicine or veterinary science.

It is also celebrating its highest ever number of students (37% of all those who have applied for places) going to Russell Group universities.

Overall, 26% of entries achieved A* or A grades, an increase on last year’s figure. Over half of A Levels taken secured A* to B grades, while almost three-quarters of entries achieved A* to C grades.

Jo Philpott, Headteacher at City Norwich School, said:

“These excellent results are again testimony to the incredible hard work and dedication of our amazing students and teachers, with the support of parents and the wider CNS community. Overall, we have seen a large increase in the top grades with a quarter of all grades being an A* or A. Most of our students will be going onto their first choice of university or apprenticeship, with our highest number of students ever going onto Oxbridge or to prestigious universities and apprenticeships.

“This year group has been a life force of the school and deserve their excellent achievements. I wish them every success in their next stage of learning, employment or gap year experiences and happiness in their future lives. Well done the Class of 2019!”

Hannah Richmond (see photograph above) who has achieved 5 A*s and will be going to Oxford to study Physics. Hannah was one of a small number of students who achieved her Gold Award at this year’s Youth STEMM Awards and received a special commendation for going above and beyond in certain strands.

Amongst the successes are:

Isis Stevens who has achieved four A*s and will be going to Cambridge to study Philosophy.  Isis was one of four Year 13 students who took part in the Mathematical Olympiad for Girls last October and was awarded a Certificate of Distinction, as well as being one of the top 100 highest scoring students in the competition.

Samuel Franks-Davies who has secured a place on a four-year course at the Norwich University of the Arts studying Moving Image and Film Production. Samuel won a national competition with INTU this year for a short film he made titled ‘Gramps’.  He hopes his studies will provide a pathway into film production in the future.
