A year of fantastic results at Flegg High

  12 August, 2021

The hardworking students and staff at Flegg High Ormiston Academy, are celebrating after receiving their GCSE grades today.

The academy is pleased to announce a year of fantastic results for students, despite the challenges of the pandemic.

While all pupils have done well, there are some standout individual achievements. These include:

  • Billy Laws, who successfully achieved six 9s, one 8, one level 2 distinction and one 6. Billy is a standout student who also won an accessible computer making competition for Google. As one of only 52 winners, out of 20,000 participants, Billy was flown all expenses paid to San Francisco to take part in this fantastic event.
  • Micah Hayward, who secured seven 9s and two 8s.
  • Ava field, who is head prefect and led the organising of both the yearbook and the prom, achieved two 9s, 1 distinction*, five 8s and one 7.
  • Hannah Dawson-Jones, who has secured four 9s, two 8s and two 7s.

This year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the government decided that young people’s grades would be determined by teachers, based on work students produced throughout their course. These grades were then moderated and assessed by external exam boards which awarded the final grades.

From the first day of the first lockdown the academy has continued to take a proactive approach to provide a consistently high-quality learning experience. The academy has gone above and beyond to make sure students were still offered the same calibre of opportunities, such as holding a virtual summer concert to celebrate students’ superb music potential.

Kate Williams, Principal at Flegg High Ormiston Academy, said:

“Our students’ resilience and determination surpassed all our high expectations. Their results reflect not only that ambition for themselves but also the hard work that our amazing staff have put in to continue delivering high-quality learning.

“The students should be exceptionally proud of their hard work and their achievements; they all have extremely bright futures ahead.”
