  9 March, 2022

Cliff Park Ormiston Academy is set to welcome Harry French as the new principal from the summer term.

Mr French grew up in Norfolk and undertook his teacher training in the region, so he is excited to the return to the area after many years spent away in the Midlands.

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in product design, Mr French originally worked in the world of business before turning his hand to teaching. He qualified as a design technology teacher in 2005 and had his first headship in 2013.

During his time as a headteacher, Mr French has led a number of schools on an ambitious school improvement journey which has successfully raised standards and outcomes for students. He is looking forward to bringing this expertise to Cliff Park Ormiston Academy so that all students thrive and achieve their full potential.

Mr French was inspired to become a teacher because of the opportunity to change other people’s lives. He said this is even more true of being a headteacher, where you can help change outcomes for a whole community.

His aim in joining Cliff Park as principal is to ensure that students have the opportunity to flourish both academically and personally, as well as making certain that the academy continues to sit at the very heart of the community in Great Yarmouth.

Mr French is taking over from interim principal Jim Nixon, who has been a longstanding member of the Ormiston Academies Trust community in Norfolk.

Harry French, incoming principal at Cliff Park Ormiston Academy said: “I’m delighted to be joining the team at Cliff Park Ormiston Academy, and to be returning to serve a community that is so important to me. I’ve received a very warm welcome at Cliff Park – students and staff are positive and enthusiastic, and I’m looking forward to being a part of it.”

Aron Whiles, regional director East at Ormiston Academies Trust said: “We are really pleased that Harry French is joining the academy as principal and that he will become part of the OAT family. He’s done an excellent job leading a number of schools over the past few years, and I know that he will bring this same skill and determination to the role of principal at Cliff Park Ormiston Academy.”
