OAT World Book Day take-over II

  23 February, 2022

World Book Day is approaching fast as we are all set to celebrate on Thursday 3 March for their 25th anniversary of the iconic event. It has enabled me to first reflect on what was such a positive celebration last year. All schools across the Trust came together to celebrate with extreme reading, sell in 60 and Tuesday’s particular favourite – dress the potato! We were fortunate to speak to many bestselling authors who gave our pupils an insight in to the writing process and joined us in celebrating the joy that books bring!

The competitive side of me kicked in to ensure that this year was bigger and better which of course meant securing more authors, more school engagement, more competitions and more amazing prize bundles.

So, with this year celebrating 25 years of World Book Day, you can look forward to an array of interviews for primary and secondary with a range of Carnegie nominees, winners and World Book Day 2022 authors- even a comedian and actor thrown in for good measure!

The event will begin at approximately 9.45am and run until 3pm and is not a day that you want to miss! Your schools have already been busy using their creative flair to take part in our competitions; the OAT Big Write, Dress the Potato, Extreme Reading and Sell it in 60. These will be shown as part of the day and have had us in fits of giggles already- I wasn’t sure we could beat the potatoes we saw last year but we sure have!

All of the pre-recorded content will be made available for staff and pupils to access. This will consist of a variety of exciting content and activities which will be provided along with resource packs made available on OAT’s internal communication platform, OATnet.

Resources will also be made available to other non-OAT schools.

Amy Rose, English regional lead practitioner and organiser of the event said: “World Book Day is one of the most exciting events on the school calendar; a day where students can unite through a love of reading and escape through the pages of a book to explore new worlds, experiences and emotions.

“This years theme is “You are a Reader” focusing on the horrifying statistic that 1 in 8 don’t own a book at home, enabling all children to reap the benefits that reading brings. I truly hope that all of our schools enjoy listening to the fascinating authors and the read-alouds and celebrate everything that this amazing day has to offer!”

Nick Hudson, CEO said: “I am delighted that once again we will be celebrating reading and encouraging OAT pupils to develop a love of books, on World Book Day. This is a wonderful opportunity for us all to enjoy, discuss and celebrate books.”
