Ormiston Latimer Academy rated good by Ofsted as inspectors remark on the “high expectations”

  19 January, 2022

Ormiston Latimer Academy, which recently joined Ormiston Academies Trust has once again been rated good by Ofsted following its last inspection.

The academy was commended for creating an environment that students enjoy being part of, where they feel “well cared for”, listened to, and are supported to “learn well”.

During the latest inspection, which took place on 9 and 10 November, inspectors were impressed by the “high expectations” that staff hold for students, and the way that students are “well supported to move onto their next stage”.

Alongside these highlights, inspectors outlined a number of other ways in which the academy is providing a strong education for its students. Notably:

Leaders have created a curriculum that supports students, and they have thought about what they are able to offer students so that they can succeed.

  • Students build knowledge in different subjects towards qualifications, which are carefully chosen to support them in whatever they choose to do next. Leaders have also sought out workplace opportunities for students, giving them an idea of what the world of work is like.
  • Students take part in activities like visits to museums and art galleries, helping to broaden their understanding and experiences. Staff also take time to take pupils to the theatre, often going outside of the school day.

The report evidences the exceptional hard work of staff, students and the wider community, indicating the academy’s commitment to building an environment where students can flourish and be inspired by their learning.

At the beginning of the academic year, the academy entered a new chapter as part of Ormiston Academies Trust, and this report is the first it has received as part of the OAT family. Everyone at the academy is excited to continue building on the strong foundations in place as it heads into the new term.

Everol Halliburton, principal at Ormiston Latimer Academy said: “I’m so proud of our staff and students at the academy, who have all come together to achieve this result.

“It was especially nice to hear how much our students enjoy coming to the academy, and that they are well supported to take their next steps when they leave. At Ormiston Latimer Academy, we work to ensure our students enjoy their time with us, are equipped with the skills they need and inspired for their futures, and it’s great that has been recognised by Ofsted.

“There are always ways we can improve further, and we’re eager to continue to build on the progress we’ve made so far.

“We’re very grateful for the support we’ve received from both our wider community and Ormiston Academies Trust, who play a pivotal part in our success.”

Seamus Oates CBE, regional director for London at OAT said: “It’s excellent to see Ormiston Latimer Academy getting this well-deserved result after all its hard work, which has been evident across all aspects of the academy.”

“I know that the academy is committed to continuing to build on the positive feedback it has received and will continue to push forwards on an upward trajectory to support its students in any way it can.

“Since joining Ormiston Academies Trust, staff have really benefitted from the shared expertise available across the Trust, and I know they have enjoyed being able to share their insights too. Everyone is looking forward to continuing to strengthen this relationship and making the most of being part of OAT.”
