Three exceptional members of staff from Ormiston Park Academy, have been shortlisted for the prestigious Thurrock Education Awards.
The Thurrock Education Awards celebrate excellence in the borough’s early years, school and post-16 education. The awards recognise the importance of education as the foundation for a good quality of life and future success.
Rose Wright, catering manager and the wider catering team have been nominated for the “Going the Extra Mile” Award. Rose and the team consistently go above and beyond to support every student in living a happy and healthy life. Not only are the catering team overly attentive and accommodating to the dietary needs of all students but they also radiate kindness and are an extra support system for any student or member of staff who needs someone to talk to.
Florin Nicorici, academy personal development lead has been nominated for the Inclusive Opportunities for Skills Development Award. Florin is committed to developing opportunities for students at the academy. He has managed a number of enrichment projects for students that ensure they are offered every opportunity to develop important life skills, including managing the Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE) and the Combined Cadet Force (CCF).
Finally, Diana Naydenova- Goryanova, head basketball coach has been nominated for the Excellence in Sport or the Creative Arts Award. Since starting at the academy 10 months ago, Diana has hit the ground running. She has shown incredible success in building up the OPA Basketball Excellence Programme from scratch and has coached the U16 boys to win the Thurrock League, as well as encouraging 100 students to play the sport regularly.
Diana not only coaches basketball but mentors the students to help them improve their schoolwork. Feedback from parents has also been fantastic and Diana has had countless compliments from other schools and coaches about how well the players have developed over such a short period.
Parents, students, colleagues, providers, partners and all involved with education in Thurrock are invited to make a nomination. An impressive 517 nominations were received this year across the 11 award categories and Ormiston Park Academy are thrilled to have three incredible finalists.
Mark Roessler, principal, said: “We are all extremely proud of Rose, Diana and Florin and are thrilled that their invaluable contributions are being celebrated.
“They were all nominated by their colleagues, who felt they really deserved recognition for the amazing impact that they have had on the lives of the students and staff at Ormiston Park Academy.”
