Students at George Salter Academy have today received their GCSE results, enabling them to embark on the next chapter of their education.
Staff and students joined together to celebrate the many achievements at the end of what has been an unprecedented academic year for all schools across the country, in light of Covid-19 and the cancellation of exams this summer.
Amongst some of the individual successes this year were:
The school also sent a huge well done to the core student leadership team who managed the workload of being a Year 11 school leader and achieved the following:
Throughout the Covid-19 George Salter has endeavoured to serve the community, to care for all students and families and offer the very best remote learning opportunities that were possible. Throughout the pandemic the academy did not close; it was open every day for the ‘permanent group’ of students and was quick to get all Year 10 students back for proper lessons as soon as it was able to.
Students have been using new technologies to complete work from home and where this has not been possible work has been sent. The school regularly made contact with all students in an effort to maintain the close relationships which are a key feature of the distinct ethos of the school. A foodbank was set up with weekly deliveries by staff to families in need.
Adrian Price, Principal at George Salter Academy, said:
“Firstly, I want to say a huge well done to all our fabulous Year 11 students. This has been an incredibly difficult time made more chaotic recently and it is so nice to have some good news to share.
“I consider our school to be one huge extended family; we hurt and celebrate together and so I am therefore absolutely thrilled for all those students who have got their results today and have what they expected. Take pride in your achievements which are very well deserved. We are all aware of the incredible hard work that you have put in and want you to know how very proud of you we are.
“We are proud to celebrate the success of our fabulous young people, wish them all the very best in the future and hope that they cherish their very special George Salter memories.
“I am sure that that the students will also join me in thanking the relentless drive, commitment and hard work of our staff in ensuring that they were prepared for these examinations.”
