Despite the disruption caused by the pandemic students at George Salter Academy (GSA) are celebrating receiving their post-16 results. Thanks to the hard work of both staff and students many post-16 leavers have achieved the grades needed to accept places at their chosen universities or to start coveted apprenticeships.
Progress rates in the sixth form are extremely high and show outstanding levels of achievement.
The following Year 13 students managed to excel academically whilst also representing their peers as Student Union Leaders throughout the pandemic. They are: Arvani Gill, Paavan Sehmar, Elizabeth White, Aaron Shelton, Sophie Haney, Esha Khan and Louis Elsmore.
They continued to have weekly meetings throughout the lockdown in order to create initiatives to support students whilst working remotely and then when in school, became advocates for social action within GSA. They all did exceptionally well to balance this responsibility with their academic studies.
83 students completed their three sections for skill, volunteering and physical activities along with their expedition for Bronze Duke of Edinburgh.
Some of the individual success stories include:
Principal Adrian Price said: “This is, yet again, a most unusual results day. It comes after a difficult and chaotic time in which education for so many has been disrupted. I have marvelled at the resilience of our Post 16 leavers who have remained focused and dedicated throughout.
“I am in awe of how our staff have responded to the challenges of the pandemic and ensured that all our leavers are not disadvantaged. I am sure that that the students will also join me in thanking the relentless drive, commitment and hard work of our staff in ensuring that they were prepared for these examinations We have found new ways of working and adapted our provision in way that few would have thought possible.
“I am absolutely thrilled for all those students who have got the results that they needed and wish them all the very best. Take pride in your achievements which are very well deserved. We are all aware of the incredible hard work that you have put into your studies during your time with us and want you to know how very proud of you we are.
“We are proud to celebrate the success of our fabulous young people, wish them all the very best in the future and hope that they cherish their very special George Salter memories.”
