Students at Wodensborough Ormiston Academy were celebrating yesterday after receiving their GCSE results, enabling them to embark on the next chapter of their education, employment or training.
Staff and students joined together to celebrate the many achievements, at the end of what has been another unusual year in light of Covid-19 and the cancellation of examinations.
Despite this, the academy, has seen continued success with some of the standout individual achievements including:
The academy is also celebrating the graduation of its first cohort of students through the WOA6 offer. WOA6 is a small, specialist SEND post-16 provision for students with identified SEND needs and EHCPs. 100% of students graduating WOA6 are moving on to further education, employment and training.
In it’s recent HMI monitoring visit (March 2021) the inspectors noted that WOA ‘…refused to let the pandemic slow your work in improving the education that pupils receive. Leaders have focused on the right things, both in response to current circumstances and in their wider work, to improve the school. Your unremitting determination to move the school forward is reflected by all staff.’
Leigh Moore, Principal at Wodensborough Ormiston Academy, said:
“To say that I am proud of the Class of 2021 and their achievements would be an understatement. The perseverance, hard work and sheer determination of staff, students and their families to succeed, in the most challenging of circumstances, has been humbling. It has been a privilege and an honour to work with them over the past academic years and I am so pleased that our students now have the qualifications they need to secure a successful future.”
This year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Government decided that young people’s grades would be determined by teachers, based on work students produced throughout their course. These grades were then moderated and assessed by external exam boards which awarded the final grades.
