OAT shortlisted for three MAT Excellence Awards

  15 March, 2023

Ormiston Academies Trust has been shortlisted for three MAT Excellence Awards thanks to their exceptional work in supporting their community; growing their trust; and showcasing their commitment to sustainability.

Each year, the MAT Excellence Awards provide an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of school trusts and recognise their impact on pupils, staff and the community.

The first award the trust is nominated for is the ‘Community Trust of the Year’ for their exceptional #WeWill programme.

Through their #WeWill initiative, OAT has engaged 9,000 young people in high-quality youth social action projects. The #WeWill programme was first introduced to support OAT in ensuring they are having a positive impact on the communities they serve and to instil a strong sense of responsibility and care in their students.

The second award the trust has also been nominated for is the ‘Growth and Impact’ award, in recognition of the trust’s recent expansion. OAT grew by welcoming four alternative provision (AP) academies in London, who they have worked closely with to ensure they are delivering quality provision for the most vulnerable learners.

Growing the trust and expanding their impact forms part of OAT’s wider goal of ensuring every pupil is given the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Finally, the second award nomination is for ‘Environmental Trust of the Year’.

The trust has an impressively low carbon footprint as a result of the action taken to understand consumption, change cultural behaviour to reduce energy usage, and use green technology to be more efficient with building and operations.

Each academy also has a designated ‘Eco’ lead to support them to make sustainable decisions.

The winners will be announced at the award show on 29 June 2023, and OAT are looking forward to sending representatives of the trust to celebrate their exceptional achievements.

Nick Hudson, CEO said: “I am so thrilled the trust’s work in supporting our communities, having an impact on the environment, and committing to positive growth has been recognised in this way.

“These nominations are truly a testament to the hard work of our dedicated staff and reflect our trust-wide commitment to both enhancing the educational opportunities we are providing our pupils and leaving a positive mark on the communities we serve.

“We are all looking forward to attending the event later this year and celebrating as a team.”
