We are delighted to be collaborating with leading resource hub Oak National Academy to develop its secondary religious education (RE) curriculum.

As one of the oldest and largest not-for-profit multi-academy trusts, educating over 35,000 pupils in 42 schools, Ormiston has invested heavily in high-quality curriculum development across several different subjects and is incredibly excited for the next step in its journey with Oak.

Ormiston Academies Trust was founded in memory of Fiona Ormiston Murray, who died in a tragedy whilst on her honeymoon in 1968. There are four founding principles of Ormiston which align with its core values:

  • Every child can thrive, regardless of their background
  • Working where the need is greatest, and to embrace that challenge
  • A belief in education and enrichment, both inside and outside the classroom so that young people can learn and develop in all the ways we want them to
  • Achieving more together through collaboration with others

Ormiston’s new partnership with Oak means they will be working together to develop innovative and high-quality curricula and teaching resources. This will enable Ormiston to build on the strong foundations of academic excellence it has embedded across its secondary academies and support teachers and leaders with materials for planning, classroom learning, and curriculum development – helping every student to access the very best learning opportunities.

The resources will be rolled out from autumn 2024 and supported by subject expert Adam Robertson, who has been an adviser for RE Today, which sponsors NATRE – the National Association of Teachers of Religious Education. As a curriculum partner, Ormiston will be sharing its leading RE expertise with the Oak community to support every teacher and student to take part in exciting and meaningful RE learning.

Kymberley Dainty, senior lead practitioner for humanities, said: “Ormiston is passionate about investing in high-quality resources for our teachers and students – this exciting partnership with Oak National Academy is a testament to our work in building on this core commitment.

“Across our academies, our teachers and leaders are experts in developing exciting curricula and learning materials which truly encourage students to engage with RE and their wider learning. We are really excited to work alongside Oak to share this expertise and insight to even more school communities across the UK, enabling more teachers and learners to access leading educational resources and opportunities.”
