Ormiston Chadwick Academy celebrates students’ outstanding achievements

Students at Ormiston Chadwick Academy are celebrating today after receiving their GCSE results, as they get ready to take their next steps in their education journey.

Staff and students have come together to mark the achievements of all the students, who have worked exceptionally hard over the past couple of years to secure these grades.

Alongside the continued success of the academy, some particular individual highlights include:

  • Matthew Hayes achieved the 2022 cohort’s highest Progress 8 score of 3.55 which is made up of five grade 9s, three grade 8s, two grade 7s and a Distinction*. Matthew is now able to study A-levels in computer science. Physics and maths at Cronton College with a view to study computing at university.
  • Sophie Tunney’s Progress 8 score is 3.13; Sophie will study A-levels at Cronton College, to include English Literature, drama and law. Sophie is yet undecided on her university subject choice.
  • Jack Darlington achieved eight grade 9s, a grade 8 and a Distinction*. He will now go on to study maths, Further maths, chemistry and physics A-levels at Cronton College and then university for more maths.
  • In addition to achieving a Progress 8 score of 2.42, Megan Rawlinson has worked tirelessly to raise funds for the Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis. Her exceptional breakdown of grades is seven grade 9s, 2 grade 7s and a Distinction*. Megan will now go Cronton College to study A-levels including computer science and maths with a view to studying the creative side of computing at university.
  • Joseph Eley achieved four Grade 9s, two Grade 8s, a Grade 7, a Distinction* and a Distinction.

Students did exceptionally well in separate sciences with students studying chemistry and biology achieving a progress 8 score of 0.83 and in physics, students achieved a progress 8 score of 1.11 and in English Literature nine pupils secured grade 9s.

Mrs Lowry-Johnson, principal said: “We are extremely pleased with the achievements of our students. The challenges they have faced throughout the pandemic have not deterred them from their goals. They have demonstrated great resilience and these results are a testament to their hard work and commitment to their studies.”
