Ormiston rolls out red carpet to celebrate achievements of exceptional pupils and staff

  22 March, 2024

Pupils and staff across the trust have had their exceptional achievements celebrated this week as part of the trust’s 10th annual awards ceremony.

Held at the Grand Hotel in Birmingham, and in a year where Ormiston Academies Trust is marking its 15th anniversary, the ceremony provided an opportunity for inspirational stories about the many accomplishments of pupils and staff across Ormiston’s 42 schools to be shared.

Guests included pupils, family members, senior leaders and staff across the trust’s national network, stretching from Birmingham and to Runcorn and Lowestoft.

The award categories up for grabs reflected the breadth and depth of the provision delivered across the trust, with the 15 winners selected from more than 35,000 children and young people educated in Ormiston’s academies, and 5,000 staff.

The winners included Bobby Bolton from Thomas Wolsey Ormiston Academy in Ipswich. Bobby received the Inspirational Learner Award for his determination in being an inspiration to his peers despite facing profound medical challenges. Meanwhile, Robert Arger, the careers leader at Ormiston Victory Academy in Norwich, took home the Securing Futures Award, in recognition of his efforts to go above and beyond to open doors for pupils.

The ceremony’s host for the evening was the TV and radio presenter Amber Sandhu. Amber shared with the audience her personal experiences and achievements, before welcoming the award winners to the stage.

The evening provided a platform to spotlight the emerging talents within the trust, featuring promising performers, musicians, and vocalists. Memorable moments included a captivating rendition by Oliwia, a student from Ormiston NEW Academy, and an energizing performance by the choir from Brownhills Ormiston Academy’s that set the tone for the evening. The ceremony concluded with a dynamic showcase by Molly and Zach – students from Ormiston Shelfield Community Academy with musical theatre numbers from the West End.

Awards were sponsored and presented by several of the trust’s partners including Ormiston Trust, IRIS Education, Barker, PLMR Group Ltd, Zurich Municipal, LMP Education, Capita Entrust, Edu-Lettings, Ginger Energy.

Tom Rees, chief executive said: “I want to share my congratulations to the winners this evening, who all so deserve their success and recognition.

“This is my first year leading the trust, but I have already had the great pleasure of getting to know so many of the remarkable children and staff across our schools. This evening’s winners exemplify Ormiston’s values.”
